can't say i had a bad day.
i had an excellent day today: one of the BEST days.
had more (clean) fun than i've had in a long while: spent the day grinning despite the freezing cold and drizzle.
my friend neil took me to a nissan promotion at the bedford autodrome.
first we got some instruction on how to race round a circuit in a beefed up nissan 350z.
then we proved we could do it a bit.
then we got thrown the keys and got told to have some fun: as many laps as we wanted.
i've never raced on a track circuit before.
it was soooo good: hitting 130mph into a corner then accelerating some more.
my old datsun 280zx wouldn't have done that.
then we were taken out, one at a time by the japanese drift racing champion (yasuyuki kazama who master his craft street racing down midnight mountain in japan) who enjoyed throwing us round another circuit several times, mainly sideways and at tremendous speed.
'konichiwa' i said, and then 'woooaah: it feels like we're in a video game'.
the champion laughed a crazy man's laugh.
later we got a chance to have instruction in drift racing too and then tried for ourselves.
i did not master the art and in fact, i still have motion sickness from repeatedly spinning many 360's on every deliberately wetted corner.
best part of the day was when they let me and neil take out a convertible 350z each and we (slowly and within the speed limit officer) raced (carefully) around tiny befordshire lanes to a pub and back again.
what a droll, hard day at the office.
had much fun telling people who called (over the sounds of squeeling tyres and deep exhaust roars) 'yes, sorry about the noise: i'm racing nissan 350z's today'.
i LOVE that car.
phoned mrs.perou, said i wanted one.
she said, 'how many seats has it got?'
'two' i go.
'no' she goes.
the perou-mobile is capped at 98mph.
this enables me to not lose my license immediately.
if i had a nissan 350z i would undoubtably lose my license immediately.
no other news to report: it's all nissan 350z's today.
ps. driving/ riding as fast as possible is one of my 6 most favourite things to do in life: speed freak.
