when I was a kid I used to swim a LOT

fishes
I used to think I was 'the man from atlantis'
later I swam for sussex competitively
I swam 5 miles non-stop, going up and down haywards heath swimming pool for hours: I got a badge to prove it

shooting underwater photos on a canon s120 in a housing is virtually impossible
press the button and 30 seconds later the flash will fire, if you're lucky

swam out half a mile to the reef i got to a couple of years ago

after breakfast, moped-rode out through the nature reserve, down the flooded. super-bumpy, pot-holed track, past pablo escobar's old tulum gaff to the private beach we love
but somehow couldn't find the reef i got to a couple of years ago
did manage to swim with fishes though
only saw half a barracuda as it flashed past me on my way back, in bad visibility because the sand was being churned up in the choppy water
swimming a mile in choppy water was a little too much effort for me today...maybe THESE days
there was a moment when I was wondering if I would make it back to shore and what I should do about it
thought about taking the camera out the housing, recording a 'goodbye, oops: sorry' video message and putting the camera back in the housing and securing it to my wrist for when I was found.
but eventually I made land
feeling super knackered and shitty
my tongue felt like i'd been licking a block of salt for an hour.
I will not be doing this again
boat to destination THEN dive
