it wasn't raining when we set off.
but the moment we sat on our moped, the heavens opened, DRENCHING us
turned around twice on the way to COBA, abandoning our adventure
before going 'fuck it' and riding on in ponchos, in the most torrential rain I've ever biked in
started off on a guided tour, in a break in the weather, but it caught us up at the end and we biked back 46km to Tulum, soaked: looking like we'd been swimming in our clothes.
worth it though
learnt a bit about mayan history
even though it felt like we were in some kind of 'tomb raider' set, ridiculously.

our guide Nicholas and our transport to the main temple: saving a 2km jungle walk in the rain
nicholas has been working at this site since 1974 when it was opened to the public
quite a discovery in 1800 when it was found: although it was a HUGE 50,000 people city, it had been abandoned in 1550 when the spanish arrived

vert I GO
take Lucy to all the best places (and by the finest mode of transport: 125cc moped in the rain)
bearing in mind lucy's scared of heights and suffers from vertigo, as usual, she did amazing to climb this old pile of stones

only animals were sacrificed here
people were sacrificed down the road at chichen-itza

Nohoch Mul Pyramid
there were 5 tiers of social class in mayan culture
only the top man (the priest) got to climb up this temple, where he could communicate with god
amazing to think this view hasn't changed since the temple was made

lucy isn't wearing (my favourite) mc.hammer leopard-print pants: she's wearing mayan-stone-camouflage utility pants, honest

today Lucy will be sporting the fashion forward, plastic poncho
arrived back in Tulum double soaked (poncho's dont keep you dry) and went for burrito AM lunch looking like we'd drowned
everyone else there was dry and looking at us kinda strange
back to Tulum for a swim but decided it was just a little TOO stormy and turbulent
NO-ONE else on the beach, at all.
DELICIOUS dinner at MurMur
