at graphius, they print millions of books a year and one's time there is strictly booked
ISSUES
we're on site to oversee the first pages printed from the aluminium plates that are made from files we have previously prepared: turning the RGB (red green and blue) digital images that we capture into CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow and black) files that can be printed with ink, on paper.
there can be a few tweaks: slight colour shifts and densities of ink, but what can't really happen (without drama) is for the perfectionist photographer involved to say, 'this file (and subsequently plate) is wrong and we have to stop the run and pull the job till we correct it (URGENTLY)'
the image we have chosen for the cover, Manson's face shot in UV light was particularly difficult to turn into a decent CMYK and required special inks
but the result is a blinder and all my nuisance causing (and extra money spent) was worth while
honest
the prints here all look the same, unless you're being real picky: then they all look different.

graphius is quite amazing: hence we bothered to go to Belgium to get our printing done
they are mastercrafts-people printers, as i am a mastercraftsman photographer and Reel Art Press are crafty Publishers and Peter and PAUL are master crafty designers etc...
i'm thrilled that every step of my first book has the BEST people in every aspect involved with it's production.
TOP TEAM effort
one would not have an idea about how much goes into a book, until one is making a book.
Herman, pictured here took us on a tour of Graphius: showing us the process of the making of the book from start to finish
pretty mind bending how clever humans are sometimes...and this is just making beautiful books
i have NEVER seen my work printed so beautifully and high quality: FUCK YEAH!

recycle
(photo: @canitakethepicture)
everything not quite right, gets recycled: hundreds of sheets have to go through to warm up the machine and stabilise the inks
NO, sorry: you can't have them: nobody can: only perfect sees the light of day
