cat's got a new name

after our last cat, happy, went splat under a car aged 18months, we said his replacement wouldn't be allowed outside

and 9 has shown NO interest in going outside: when the door's been open, he's sat in the doorway looking scaredy-cat-shit-scared

but over the last few weeks, he's been getting more courageous and more interested in going out into the yard and we've been cautiously letting him.

he's always RUSHED back indoors if we call for him.

last night, Lucy called me to look out the fire escape to see 9, who'd jumped down onto the railway track (through three lines of razor wire) and no matter how much she was calling him, he was refusing to even acknowledge her calls.

just as he was walking down a single train rail towards the station, I asked, 'are any of those live?'

and then we saw the cat getting an almost cartoon style ZAP (like when you see tom of tom and jerry electrocuted and you momentarily see his skeleton flashing)

cat jumped about 4ft in the air, contorting

we thought he ws a gonner but he raced back up the wall, through three lines of razor wire and hid in the yard till Lucy found him and brought him inside to calm down

he SEEMS to be fine although he smelled a little smokey
