we wont be druv

we wont be druv

to my homeland, rendezvousing with my brother, nina, crispin and sangeeta at 'the griffin' in fletching, for lunch.
dropped maximum and z at mum-mum and dad-dad's on the way.

had a deeelicous lunch.

followed by the main event: Newick Bonfire Night 2007.

this is the only day/night of the year you can always be sure to find me in the village i grew up in.
i have only missed 3 years out of 30(ish) and  on those years have been left mourning the loss.

in the past, i've had a lot of friends down to my mum and dad's, en masse and crashing over on the floor in sleeping bags.

this was a more civilised and grown up (sober) occassion.
i didn't even go tooled up with a tradtional armoury of rockets and industrial crow-scarers (small explosives) that i once HAD to have..

it is an evening like no other.
sadly changing over the years.
once the event was only policed by a couple of village bobbies in their mini-metros (which were often the target of afore mentioned rockets) and there was never any trouble...now there are police everywhere with police vans and cctv cameras patrolling.

i still love it though.

both sons were so tired, maximum only just stayed awake for the fireworks and z slept through them which was amazing considering our proximity to the explosions and how loud they were.

had to carry z back to my parents, asleep and stretched out in my arms.
the power lift back for a mile almost killed me.

drove back to the farm in convoy with crispin for some of the way.

happy day (and night)..
