dave
mark and dave PKA 'kent master thatchers',
have been thatching our main barn (beautifully) for some weeks.
dave's dad was a thatcher and dave's dad's dad was a thatcher.
dave's son was a thatcher, for a while...but now he's a quantity surveyor.
recently mark and dave have been laughing at me because i run from farmhouse to office, several times an hour.
'always running'
mainly because i forget things and if i walked these distances too many minutes would be lost in transit.
now i am self-conscious of my running and i have been walking to and from my office.
which is unpleasantly time consuming.
i have decided to photograph (almost) everyone who comes to our farm.
not as a 'project' but just because i can.
and so i can give everyone 12x16" prints.
when i gave dave and mark their prints, i forgot to forewarn them that there would be a lot of detail in them.
dave was quite shocked.
and then worried that he'd offended me by his reaction.
i wasn't offended.
i often choose to keep things (very) real and i know sometimes a version of reality captured in my pictures is radically different to the thoughts or image people have about themselves.
some guys from EDF came round to run a new cable through that trench we dug out at the weekend.
i did not photograph them.
and they will not be getting 12x16" prints.
