back of house

back of house

georgian brutalist, with an ugly victorian extension

the back int as preedy as the front

been a while since i've shared anything of the big old house...

this prominent rear-end is my current solitary confinement block

the bars on the windows were already there: not put on by lucy for my covid-19 incarceration: i am allowed outside

the bars on the windows will stay: some people don't like bars on windows and say they make them feel like they're in prison

we've always had bars on our windows since we owned the perou-factory in hackney wick, when it was frontier territory: i am comforted by the added security.

every bit of wall from top to toe, lime repointed

every window you can see (and the big arched windows blocked by this block, that you can't) replaced or repaired

new lime render on the knackered wall where the toilet block was removed and reclaimed york stone all around the ground (as per our planning permission: THANKYOU)

the wall to the street had the tree growing in it, removed and the wall rebuilt and reppointied in lime too

rotten fire escape repaired

some back windows and bars to still be painted

looks a little stark (nakid) now the weed trees and weeds gone BUT we can start replanting properly: this is lucy's domain

at some point, i'll go through the old pictures and shoot the new from the same position and angle, but here's a few of how things were back here when we took over...

history lesson

sometimes it's good to look back to get a sense of where you're going and how far you've come

sending much love to everyone in these weird, hard to fathom moments
