aldington soap box derby
did some school-shoe-shopping in canterbury
then
took sons and wife to meet our friends, the keoghs at the very british, aldington soap box derby.

simply expalined: two nutters at a time, race each other down a steep hill in kent (after a two man tobogan style hefty push) in 'badly'(?) made go-carts at speeds of up to 49mph.
there are several crashes.
the road is closed to regular traffic.
drink driving rules do not apply.

maximum enjoying the soap box derby
as often the way, maximum preferred to spectate by looking in the opposite direction.
he was looking for lizards.
he found two.

my favourite go cart of the day was definately this entry by 'the white horse' which utilised a picnic bench as it's frame and beer kegs for wheels.
seemingly spectacularly dangerous but actually quite slow and dignified on the descent.
extra points for class.
and for the driver having two cans of strongbow attached to his helmet.
i also liked 'bin hur' who had put wheels on a wheelie bin.
there is a rumour that me and max keogh will enter a cart next year...tbc.

ultima can am
my favourite car of the day though, was this ultima can am 620bhp beast.
only £28,000 apparently.
but it's a KIT
i don't care
