we start them young

i had an alfa romeo alfasud sprint when i was 14.
bought it for £16
had to pour neat petrol straight into the carburetor(?) to get it to turn over.
i used to have it parked up on my mum and dad's drive and they thought it didn't run.
then i had to explain one night how come it was broken down in maresfield (5 miles from our house).
(i'd driven it there to the old airstrip and geoff had a good go at knocking some sense into me as i was looking out of a back window past a metal post as he high speed reversed into a concrete block, by accident of course.
over the years my guardian angel has had to work overtime).
leaving cars on my mum and dad's drive was a habit that got broken after i'd gone to polytechnic and left my triumph toledo with a (personally) hand re-built dolomite engine there.
my mum said 'you sell it, or i'll sell it for scrap: it can't stay here while you're away'.
i got back one weekend and found an envelope with £15 in it...and no car.
my mother means what she says.
and i am my mother's son: no point in mincing words...

today was a glorious sunny morning.
and i had a later start to the day so i could chill in the garden with z and enjoy being at home.
unfortunately i had an 'important' meeting in town to go to so go suited and booted and booted it into the smoke.
the meeting lasted 3 minutes and kind of went like this:
'so in june this is happening and in july this is happening and in august you'll be shooting and there'll be an exhibition in november'.
'what? that's IT?' i said
'essentially, yes'.
'don't you have a phone?' i said...
'this has been a 170 mile round trip, £35 of LPG and an afternoon of my life...'
really unamused: what a WASTE of everything.
drove back to the farm annoyed.
the sun had gone.
maximum had friends and mrs.perou had maximum's friend's mums over for tea.
YES!
it's the weekend and i'm NOT shooting!
first day off in ages.
my phone will also be off and i will be with the family.
:)
