stock fencing

i'll never be able to look at another fence in the same way again.

looks like nothing.

but the amount of effort that's gone into this is unbelievable.

my friend rob (pig guru) came over and spent the entire day teaching me how to do 'stock fencing' and then helped me DO the stock fencing.

i am holding a 6" post driver.
it's so heavy it's an effort to lift it.
(actually now it's an effort to type or pick up the phone)

to put in the 36x 5ft 6" chestnut stakes that i did today involves holding the post driver over one's head and slamming it down on the post.
this requires maybe 10-20 hits depending on the soil.

i can't remember the last time i was this physically knackered.
i ache like crazy.

we managed to finish the majority of the 1st pig pen.
i just have to do some barbed wire lines and some more corner posts.

it's quite amazing that rob has been so kind with his time.
haven't known him long.

and it doesn't really seem right to complain about how much i ache after a day's heavy graft as rob has MS and doesn't grumble at all.

used the massey ferguson as an anchor for the winch to pull the fencing tight.

good to have it out and being used for proper farm work.

bring on the pigs (and turkeys).
can't wait to be filling up the farm with livestock.

whilst stratford is more pig than dog, he doesn't really count.
