jose gonzalez YEAH
had a lazy morning after an early start with sons.
then drove to curtain road studios (on curtain road).
which was really weird because from the fourth floor studio's windows, we could look straight into my old penthouse loft.
curtain road itself is virtually unrecognisable: it's all bars, restaurants and clubs: it's changed so much in the last six years (since we left).
photographed 'corinne bailey rae' who was lovely.
had an unexpectedly happy, good shoot and finished ahead of schedule.
(polaroid of us two by ms.hood)
mrs.perou caught a cab into shoreditch to rendezvous with me and me motor and we drove to hammersmith together.
en route had an argument after mrs.perou grabbed my arm and screamed after she thought i was going to broadside a car while dialling my mobile.
i wasn't going to hit the car as i was looking where i was going (also) but the scream and grabbing of my arm almost made me swerve into the car.
fortunately made up before meeting up, with our friends crispin and sangeeta.
went for a drink in a chav pub round the corner from the hammersmith appolo and went for dinner at a gastro pub called 'the grove'.
made it back in time to see jose gonzalez play.
it was AMAZING!
spent an hour a half with goosebumps.
only spoilt by the ass behnd me shouting (in an american accent) YEE-AAAAHHHHH! during the first bars of each song.
the same ass punctuated each encore with 'YOU FUCKING ROCK, JOSE!'
if you read this diary a while back, you'll remember jose's music was tipping me over the edge of sadness when martin died on his motorbike this earlier this month.
i was saying to lucy that i really hoped he wouldn't play 'save your day' tonight as i knew i would well up.
it was particularly strange then when on the second encore, jose dedicated 'heartbeats' to martin.
i didn't know he knew him.
what a positive impact martin had on so many people that he is so fondly remembered.
respect.
if only he could have been there to hear it.
jose also did a cover of 'hand on your heart' by kylie which was incredible.
i'd never heard the lyrics before: they are amazing and the way he sung it blew us away.
he covered massive attack's 'teardrop' too.
one of the very best gigs i've ever seen.
(very grown up though).
phenomenal sound.
returned to the factory to relieve mrs.perou's mum from babysitting duties.
walked round the wick for a while taking photos in the fog/mist.
and shouted at some people stealing things out of the scrapyard next door.
come on the countryside...
