the very nice people at dunlop invited me on a race academy press day at (the legendary) brands hatch.
well actually my mate neil invited me and dunlop were gracious hosts.
i hadn't been to brands hatch since 1975(ish) when i saw james hunt race a grand prix.
he signed the programme for me after.
he was wearing his 'sex: breakfast of champions' badge.
(it made a lasting impression on me).
today i started out on a mini cooper s works for a few laps.
then had a go on a jazzed up porsche 968.
and finished the day in a race academy ginetta.
all with instructors as co-pilots making sure we didn't hurt oursleves or anyone else.
unlike a few of the people there (aka rich old men) on track day races with their street cars seeing how fast they could go...or not: one tvr driver smashed both sides of his motor and burst his back window, hitting the barriers after failing to notice a red flag and everyone else stopping.
(HAHA)
it was an EXCELLENT adventure.
made for some amusing phone calls with people shouting 'i can't hear you: where are you?' over the sound of cars screaming past.
'sorry, i'm racing cars at brands hatch today'.
hahahhhaaaaa...
the race academy that evo magazine and dunlop are doing is kind of like a pop idol for wannabe racing drivers.
anyone can take part.

there were a few too many cars for comfort on the track.
it was great to have friendly instructors teaching you how to go faster and faster round corners.
i particularly enjoyed paddock hill corner.
although these cars look like they're going slow and quietly (a still moment) they're actually screaming past very fast.
returned to the factory to buy the R32 i'd seen advertised online and was told they'd just sold it.
this not being able to buy things is becoming habitual.
good grief: mrs.perou's stomach bug's returned and i'm coming down with a cold.
i keep meeting people out and about who say, 'wow, someone's always ill in your family'.
yes.
