reginald smith
aged 20 in 1959.
mick brought round this picture of reg.
weird seeing it now.
this picture spooks me.
if you met him back then, there would be absolutely no way of knowing how he would end up.
but he looked exactly the same until he died, but older, and fatter...
photographed someone early, playing tiddlywinks this morning.
returned to the factory.
put three of reg's old bits of furniture out in the street.
15 mins later they were ALL gone.
recycled by 'trendier-than-hoxton' trendy types that rent industrial units locally.
(soon to be evicted when the property boom kicks in proper style here, or robbed by gypsies if it goes THAT way).
drove maximum and z down to my folks in sussex.
me and mrs.perou are having a couple of nights sans children.
stopped at my mates geoff and rosie's to meet their 1yr old danny for the first time and to see my godson, oliver and his brother thomas.
no matter how much time goes by between seeing geoff and rosie, nothing ever changes between us.
proper friends since the beginning (almost) and forever: no shit can change it.
we're almost family.
drove back to london through heavy m25 road of hell.
had dinner with steve, sarah and harriet at smiths nr. smithfields.
haven't seen them in ages.
they're family too.
reg died two days ago (for those of you that missed the thread).
mick is unamused with me as i've made the hospital aware that HE is actually the next of kin, not onnie.
now he thinks he'll have to pay for reg's service etc...
i think i'll probably end up paying.
but there should be some family and friends there.
these things are important.
what a contrast reg's death is to my friendly acquaintance martin's last month.
no website of fond memories to be shared for reg.
mind you, he didn't exactly encourage people to think well of him: he was a bit of an old, selfish bastard.
him dying virtually alone was quite self-inflicted.
