fosters and sons

fosters and sons

i'm sure this could sound naff, but today feels like a landmark day (for me) of sorts.

this afternoon, after a couple of meetings and a casting, i bought my first pair of 'foster and sons' brogues from their jermyn street shop.

i used to polish a couple of similar pairs on a regular basis, when i worked as a butler.
i have always coveted a pair.
the older they get, the better: one pair could last you a lifetime: you only have to re-sole them every now and then.

i love jermyn street and the old shops down there: i would like to have the patience and funds to dress 'properly' all the time.

having returned back to the factory, i struggled to reawaken my neglected zzr and eventually rode it round to the bike shop in bethnal green.
the owner of the dirty (oily) little bike shop that mainly services courier's old motorbikes has just bought himself a new aston martin DB9 (as a 'runaround').
now i'm certain i'm doing the wrong job.

although i was wearing a t-shirt top half, i was in amoured leathers from the waist down.
i was waiting for a 388 bus to hackney wick at the same time as 'kids kick out of school' time.

now, i'm a 6ft 4" skinhead with tattoos and armoured leathers on.
but i felt a little intimidated by the 6 or so teenagers that barged their shoulders into me and kissed through their teeth as they walked past.
if they felt happy to be this way with me, i worry about how they'd be with a less aggressively dressed/looking person.

felt very happy to be leaving london very soon and not have our kids grow up here.
felt very happy to know i'm not reliant on public transport.
