the pantheon AD118

the pantheon AD118

6am drove to stanstead with frances.
met john best and flew to rome.

i've never been here before.
it's incredible though: you immediately get an over-whelming sense of ancient history.
during the drive in from the airport, passed some ground romans used to race chariots on...you can almost see them.

had a delicious ravioli salmon and ricotta lunch at a restaurant near our hotel and spent the afternoon walking round looking for locations.
walked for hours but saw some great bits of rome including the pantheon.

returned to our hotel to do a bit of work before getting a call to morrissey's hotel to discuss tomorrow's plans.
the smiths and morrissey's music have been very important to me: very influential.
it's sounds so naff to say i'm a massive fan.
but i guess that's the most honest/ simplest way to put it.

after a short meeting, headed out onto the street again (this time with morrissey's manager and jen from his label) to do a bit more location checking.

met douglas coupland back in morrissey's hotel for a drink.
he was going to join us for dinner but remembered that he'd ordered room service.
i asked what he'd ordered and he said he couldn't remember but it was something from the children's menu.
although i'm paraphrasing, he said something like 'take my advice: always order from the children's menu: the food is simpler: they don't put sauces on it...'
he's from vancouver.

had dinner at the legendary 'alfredos' THE home of fettacinni alfredo.
it was brilliant.
the walls were full of pictures of 'alfredo' trying to stuff massive handfuls of fettacinni alfredo into the mouths of celebrities like sophia loren, bing crosby, isabella de marcos, sylvester stallone etc...
genius.

tried to get a photo of me being force fed fettacinni by alfredo but unfortunately he wasn't there.
