point of lay

point of lay

which in human terms is often the bedroom...but in fowl terms, it's the time of life for dropping eggs.
all the chickens and ducks were bought at point of lay but only the chickens have been laying.

...till now:
one of our ducks is laying beautiful, pastel blue eggs.
i think it's 'mohair' the black running duck, as she seems to be hungry all the time.

duck eggs have to be handled differently to chicken eggs.
there are salmonella risks due to the more porous nature of the egg shell.
as long as the eggs are washed in 47ºc warm water, stored in the fridge, eaten within 10 days and cooked well, they are often considered to be a much finer egg than a chicken could lay.

i'll let you know.

have been working on my portfolios today.
NOT my favourite job.

i have four identical books: 2 in london and 2 in NY.
i'm doing another two: less portrait, fashion and music...more ad friendly: it's the way forward.

last night, didn't sleep again: worrying about listed buildings consent and officious council officers throwing their weight around to validate their jobs.
i expect this will be a recurring theme.

our thatcher (from the national trust) has started talking to the relevant person at our council who we'll be dealing with over the thatching.
we need to thatch in reed.
but the guy at the council says it's 'long straw' and has to stay that way (because the building's listed)
BUT
it's possible the council was duped last time round in 1991 and it's only faked long straw...

i can already feel this drama draining as it unfolds.
i can't stand bureaucrats...
