lost in translation: the set
started today with another 'up too early for sense' 6.30am wake up.
and did another full day fashion shoot with olie styling.
tom, frances sister's boyfriend, who is out here modeling, was our model.
and we shot in various locations around tokyo including the JR line, shinjuku and shibuya.
had to break for a 'moss burger' (a japanese mc donalds: couldn't face the 'real thing') and wait for the daylight to go night-time.
finished exhausted again
25 rolls of 120 shot: dropped the films to a lab in harajuku.
our 2nd assistant here: satchi, brought round our contacts from the other lab we dropped our last shoot in.
they are way too high contrast: hope to hell it's a contact sheet problem and not a neg problem: these are the dangers of developing film abroad: this happens a bit.
i think either metro in london runs a weak/cool dev or some places elsewhere run it hot and strong.
should be the same everywhere innit.
warning!
i won't be able to resolve this till we get back to london and start printing from the negs: more good reason not to get a good night's sleep out here.
don't have this problem with digital do you?
satchi also brought her portfolio round to show us.
with frances (olie was too tired) met tiga, crispin and steve (mrs.perou's boss/ our family friend/family) at the park hyatt in shinjuku for dinner at the new york grill: the hotel featured in the film 'lost in translation'.
it's the top end of the classy.
this is the view from the 53rd floor.
i shot exactly the same view 6yrs ago (on 3200asa film): see above
i shot this on digital: thought things might have changed but they seem to have stayed the same.
ordered and ate (but happily didn't pay for) the most expensive meal i've ever eaten.
a small ribeye steak without vegetables was about £55...
had a happy meal and returned to our (lived in but comfy) hotel late.
called mrs.perou from the roof: city sleeping, with the background buzz of electricity all around.
